Hurricane Harvey Relief Trip…

Loading up and heading out…

THANK YOU to everyone for the amazingly quick donation turn around. Cases of water, sheets and towels donated by local hotel, and health and beauty items for roughly 100 people loaded up, Scott and I are Texas bound.

Backpacks for the kids, fall 2017

“Phase 2” is all packed up and ready to head out…

Friends were so generous this year, in addition to the increased number of backpacks for the homeless, we were also able to “adopt” a local elementary school and supply 20 students will fully loaded backpacks.

As we didn’t know the exact supply list or quantities needed, we tried to cover a lot of generally needed elementary school items so they should have a solid chunk of their needs taken care of before they start back to school.

Thanks to Sabrina and to the DaVita CDM team (including Joe, Bhavna, and others) for help with this effort – your gifts are greatly appreciated…

…and to Grace and Tristan for helping pack everything up as always.

Backpacks for the homeless, fall 2017

At it early this morning – “phase one” of this year’s efforts, handing out 40 backpacks to brothers and sisters in need in downtown Orlando.

We saw some familiar faces as well as many new ones, and while we upped the number of backpacks this year by almost 30%, we didn’t even make it the whole way around the lake before unfortunately running out.

Aside from the smiles on their faces and their warm hugs and blessings, the highlight (for me at least) was seeing the couple with the wheelchair go through the items in the back back as we started to drive off, handing items out to other homeless people that didn’t get the opportunity to get one, literally “Paying it Forward” themselves with the limited items given to them – it was really quite moving to witness.

A HUGE “thank you” to Michael, Laura, Jim, and to the CDM folks (including Joe, Bhavna, and others) for their donations and amazing support in the effort as well as the “phase two” effort which we’ll be posting later. This would not be possible without them.

Backpacks for the homeless, fall 2017

It’s that time of year and Grace & Tristan were busy again this evening, packing up backpacks for distribution to the homeless in the morning.

Amazing support and encouragement from friends on this endeavor…some exciting news coming VERY soon.

Blessings abound with a circle of friends that are SO good hearted and generous – “thank you” just doesn’t say enough…

Backpacks for the homeless, fall 2016

Another amazing year – brothers and sisters hopefully filled with even a bit of hope, coupled with the knowledge that they’re not alone as they work through they’re struggles…they will be in our prayers.

On a personal note, we didn’t see Charles this year, a friendly homeless gentleman the kids and I have gotten to know over the years of us taking these outings, so we can only hope that he was able to “make the leap” and is no longer living on the streets as he was so close the last time we saw him.

A HUGE “thank you” to Michael, Laura, Jim for their donations and amazing support in the effort. It would not be nearly as successful without them.

Backpacks for the homeless, fall 2016

It’s Friday night and Grace & Tristan are busy helping “the old man” get backpacks filled for our outing to take care of the homeless tomorrow morning.

I’m so very blessed to have kids that put up with all the philanthropic adventures I decide to bring their way…

Backpacks for the homeless, fall 2015

Another successful year (unfortunately) where all 30 bags were handed out before we even made it around the entire lake…

Oh, and the kids got to see their buddy Charles too…how cool!!!

Backpacks for the homeless, fall 2015

It’s that time again…

The $2.99 backpack promotion at Walgreen’s was in full effect and as such, the “2nd annual backpack fill-up for the homeless project” was underway.

(Yeah, I know it’s not a real catchy name…)

This year donations were graciously provided by Michael & Jim, allowing us to fill another 30 backpacks with “basic needs items” including food, drinks, fresh socks, and health and beauty items.

Harley even jumped in to “help” this year, and with Michael’s assistance, we’ll look forward to handing these out in the morning, hopefully giving even a bit of comfort to a group of local brothers and sisters in need.

With help from Michael Lee, we were able to fill and distribute 20 backpacks to the homeless in the local area.
